Research and Creative Residencies in the Digital Arts: CALQ – Institut français

Recognizing the importance the Québec government accords to the establishment of durable cultural ties with France, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) has concluded a three-year partnership agreement with the Institut français in order to offer Québec artists the opportunity to engage in residencies in France devoted to artistic renewal and creation in the realm of the digital arts. The establishment of the residency program reflects the efforts of the French and Québec governments to support this sector and contribute to enhancing the influence of artists from their territories.

Sporobole is happy to welcome sound artist Valentin Durif who will be in Sherbrooke until November 23.

Biography

A musician, sound technician and computer programmer, Valentin Durif lives and works in Lyon, France. Informed by electronic and electroacoustic musics, his projects are part of the digital instrument-making movement. He develops and produces his own instruments or develops mechanical and digital devices in order to play his compositions. Infused with a common timeless patina, his creations are presented as performative concerts (Émincé d’oreilles) or installations (Cliquetis). His music is influenced by electronica, noise rock or indutrial music, with a more experimental sound art approach. Valentin Durif works under the name of GzzzT for part of his production and collaborates with the AADN Association in Lyon (arts and digital cultures) for which he has developed interactive systems (Les Hommes Debouts).
