RAIQ is pleased to offer the “Écrire à l’oreille” training with Simon Brown that will be held at Sporobole at 74, rue Albert, Sherbrooke, on February 25, 2017.

“WRITING TO THE EAR”, led by Simon BROWN, focuses on sound and language concepts. Despite appearances, these are not exactly foreign – language is first and foremost oral, a practice of original sound creation. His and his text would therefore be more like cousins who don’t often talk to each other. Despite this apparent remoteness, a renewed, open and sometimes surprising dialogue is possible.

The purpose of this workshop is to find ways to write around sound, whether the final result belongs to storytelling, experimental literature, or art theory. This research will be carried out by creating a new “cousinade” space, where sound and text can be found, through practical exercises and collective reflections fed by perspectives from many disciplines: ethnology, exploratory writing, sound art and performance.

Simon Brown has been practicing interdisciplinary arts since the late 1990s. He holds a master’s degree in interdisciplinary arts and has received several CALQ scholarships for literary, performance and transmedia projects. He has teaching experience in university, museum and community contexts. His work has been presented in several forms: performances, conceptual works, poetry collections. His most recent book, Mollesse dure, was published by Le laps in 2014.
